Gilbert R. Darby, 82, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart. June 7, 1931 – Jan. 1, 2014. He was born June 7, 1931, in Bradenton, Fla., to James E. and Selma C. (Murphy) Darby. On July 6, 1995, he married Ruth L. (Pierce) Darby in Elkhart.

In addition to his wife, other survivors include a son, Mark (Bernadette) Darby of Montgomery Village, Fla.; a brother, Charles Darby of Brandon, Fla.; several grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Darby; two brothers, Jim and Harry Darby; and a sister, Alma Lee Powell. Grilbert served in the U.S. Army and later worked for Acousticom for more than 20 years prior to his retiement.

He enjoyed boating and spending time near the ocean in Florida. In accordance with his wishes, no public funeral services will be held and cremation will take place at Altera Cremation Services.
