On Oct. 11, 2012 Gilbert Lomeli Montoya, 72, passed into the hands of the Lord. He was surrounded by his family and close friends.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carlotta Montoya, his mother Mary Montoya, and three siblings. He is also survived by his six children Michelle (Manny), Jennie (Mike), Chris (Marlo), Petra (Frank), Gilbert (Rachael), and Rebecca (Joe). He was also blessed with seventeen grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He and Carlotta were married on September 1st, 1962 and began their life together.

He started out working for the city of Flagstaff but found his true calling as the owner of EL CHARRO Café. Through his restaurant, he was able to serve the community for more than 50 years and earned the friendship of many. If you ever entered the restaurant you were greeted by his smile and open arms. He cared more about the patrons than the profits and enjoyed the smile that his food put on their face. He was an artist as well as a great musician. His passion, was performing with Mariachi Continental which was started by his father Ray and continued on by his son Gilbert and grandson Adam. He had the most giving heart, and never refused help to anyone in need. He will always be loved and forever in our hearts. He will be missed unconditionally by many.
