Gilbert F. Logan, 96, of Centralia, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia, Illinois.

Gilbert was born June 4, 1922 in Irvington, Illinois. He was the son of Roy Logan and Eva (Raines) Logan.

Gilbert was raised in Irvington and entered the United States Navy and he also served in the United States Marines with the Sixth Marine Corps in the South Pacific. The Marines were ready to enter Japan when President Truman ordered the atomic bomb dropped on Japan, August 6, 1945.

Gilbert then returned home to Irvington after serving four years with the Marine Corps. He was employed with Sears Roebuck for 35 years and married Phyllis Maddox on June 2, 1950 at First Baptist Church in Centralia.

Gib and Phyllis were blessed with two sons, Kim E. Logan and Rodney J. Logan. Daughters-in-law: Lanna and Pamela. Grandchildren, Lori Logan, Lisa Wallace, Mallory Logan, Tyler Logan and Anders Logan. Great grandchildren. Maddox Wallace and Maci Wallace. Grandson-in-laws, Jeremy Ruepke and Van Wallace. Granddaughter-in-law, Sarah Logan. Dad and Grandpa will be dearly missed by his family. Special thanks to Rodger Randolph and Dr. Brian High for their continued support and comfort. The family deeply appreciates and thanks Gilbert’s many friends, American Legion buddies, caregivers and relatives in his time of need.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Eva Logan. Gilbert enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and traveling with his wife Phyllis of 69 years.

Gilbert served as a Deacon for First Baptist Church for many years. He also served on many boards as well as Sunday School Superintendent.
