Gilbert Lee Hand, 79, of Ashland, IL died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at his residence.
He was born May 24, 1932 in Ashland; the son of James Gilbert “Gib” and Nellie Davis Hand. He married Ethel M. “Pat” Summers on July 21, 1951 in Pleasant Plains, IL and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Rick Hand (wife, Donna) of Ashland and Tom Hand (wife, Debbie) of El Paso; a daughter, Jill Houser (husband, Mark) of Mowequa; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Mark and Jane Hand; and a sister in infancy.
Mr. Hand served with the US Army during the Korean War. He then worked many years in several capacities providing agriculture and painting services in west central Illinois. He operated a custom baling business during the 1950’s and early 1960’s.
