Gilbert J. Getlinger, age 94, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Renaissance Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.
Gilbert was born on July 18, 1927 to Melvin and Martha (Gumz) Getlinger in Wisconsin Rapids.
Gilbert attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison where he took short courses in Agriculture Engineering.
He was a very caring man and enjoyed having conservations with new people. He was a hard worker doing multiple jobs, many at the same time. He worked for Consolidated Papers Inc. for 47 years, while at the same time farming, and taking care of his sheep. He loved music and dancing to polkas, waltzes, and square dancing. Gilbert also liked garage sales and auctions because there were always treasures to be found. He was a 4H leader for 62 years from 1951-2014 and received many awards for his efforts with the youth.
Gilbert loved to be around people and enjoyed attending the Neighborhood Table, not only to eat but to talk to people and enjoy their company. He was an excellent story teller, often recalling detailed stories of his youth.
Gilbert is survived by his siblings Vernon (Mary Jane) Getlinger and Melda Graves. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews with whom he had a close relationship with in his younger years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jane (Brice) Runnels, brother Ray Getlinger, and brother-in-law Dr. Stephen Graves.
Special thanks to the staff at the Renaissance and special friends who loved Gilbert and took such wonderful care of him.
