Gilbert Guillen, age 77 of Big Rapids, passed into the arms of the Lord, on Friday, November 18, 2016 at home with his family at his side. He was born on February 13, 1939 in Corpus Christi, TX to Francesco and Luz (Garza) Guillen. On, December 20, 1991 he married Theresa Zielinski and they made their home in Big Rapids. He had been employed for Diane Dukes Inc. for 30 years, retiring in his late sixties. His health began to decline due to lung cancer but his spirit was strong. Gilbert enjoyed being outside, he was funny, lovingly stubborn, and tried to provide for his family.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Theresa; children, Bertha Guillen, Lulu Guillen, Lisa Guillen, June Payne and Gary (Christine Jones) Payne; four brothers, Richard (Sheryl), JV, Arnold, Tito; two sisters, Janie and Angie Guillen; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; maternal aunt, Teresa; and many extended family and friends. He especially adored grandchildren, Carson and Aiden that lived closest to him; his “kids” Chihuahuas, Angel, Bear and Little One . Even though Gilbert wasn’t able to meet all of his family, they were close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Reuben, Charlie “Carlos” and Frank.
