Mrs. Wicks passed on December 4, 2013, at the Lancaster Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln.

Gertrude was born on September 10, 1917, the daughter of August and Emma (Pleseis) Streich at Brownton, MN. She was baptized at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton and later was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on May 29, 1931.

She graduated from Brownton High School in 1936. Gertrude was a rural school teacher in the Brownton, MN area. She taught from 1937 to 1946.

On October 20, 1942, Gertrude married Lorraine Melton Wicks at Minneapolis, MN. Due to her husband’s occupation, the couple lived in Brainerd, Golden Valley, both in Minnesota before moving to Atlantic, IA. In 1952, the family moved to Norfolk, NE. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage and four children.

She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norfolk.

Gertrude had a lifelong affection for dancing. However, her passion was for her family.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Priscilla “Pixie” and Vern Jones, of Fort Morgan, CO, Randall “Randy” and Marge Wicks, of Scottsdale, AZ, Kenneth Wicks, of Norfolk, and Scott and Theresa Wicks, of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; one sister, Florence Braun, of Glencoe, MN.

Gertrude was preceded in death by parents, her husband, in 1995, six brothers and two sisters.
