Mrs. Gertrude (Smith) Phenix, R.N., died on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the age of 95. She was the loving wife of the late Albert F. Phenix. Born in Moosup, CT on October 3, 1919, she was the daughter of Joseph P. and Eva H. Smith. She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1936 and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Gertrude was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, a member of its Ladies’ Guild and active in the Newington Senior Citizens’ Club and AARP 697. She leaves three daughters: Mrs. Patricia Smith of Colchester, wife of the late Stephen F. Smith, Mrs. Priscilla Salonia and her husband, Ross of Newington and Mrs. Paula Allan and her husband, William of Burlington; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; her sister Catherine Henneberry of Newington and her brother, Thomas F. Smith of Central Village, CT.
