Davis: Gertrude Helen Schneeberger, 100 of Davis, died Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Woods Crossing in Brodhead, Wisconsin.Born October 29, 1915 in Calamine, Wisconsin, she was the 6th daughter of Ernest and Freida (Siegenthaler) Schurch where Ernest was a cheese maker. In 1917 they moved to a farm north of Rock Grove, IL.
On February 27, 1935 she married Walter Schneeberger at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL and he preceded her in death.They farmed north of Davis from 1935-1969 and then retired and moved to Davis. Besides being a farm housewife and mother, she worked at Medina nursing home for 22 years and was a 40 year member of Rock Grove Home Extension.
In 2014 at the age of 99 she received her Honorary Dakota High School Diploma which was a lifelong desire of hers. She was a life member of the Rock Grove Lutheran Church until it closed and currently she was a member of the Davis Methodist Church. Dancing, playing cards, gardening, 21 bus trips, 2 trips to Switzerland were just a few of her favorite things in addition to keeping a diary every year starting in 1929.
Surviving are her children, Richard (Helen) Schneeberger of Davis, Steve (Sylvia) Schneeberger of Evansville, Marlene (Ellwyn) Crase of Davis, and Donna Prince of Rock City; Sister-in-law Kay Oschner of Albany, WI., 8 grandchildren, Dana (Joel) Wood, Todd (Diane) Schneeberger, Dennis (Pam) Jansen, Brenda (Dean) Bowers, David Jansen, Michael (Heather Spring) Pfile, Ryan (Ronael) Schneeberger, Allison Schneeberger, Leslie (Mark) Mantua and Shawn (Carmen) VanHorn, 23 great grandchildren and 15 great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter in 1990, infant granddaughter Alaina Ann Schneeberger; son-in-law Les Prince, and granddaughter in-law, Tammy Jansen. 7 sisters, Clara Crone, Marie Gill, Anna Horstmeier, Elsie Miller, Rose Brown, Sylvia Thoren, and Helen Bennehoff. 1 brother, Fred Schurch.
