Went to be with her Lord, Tuesday afternoon, October 31, 2017. Gertrude was born December 15, 1920 in Kalamazoo to the late Henry E. and Mary R. (VanDyke) Johnson. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High in 1939. Gertrude was a secretary for 26 years with the Kalamazoo Public Schools until her retirement. She was a member of Westwood Church of God. On January 18, 1941 she was united in marriage to her loving husband Glenn, who preceded her in death on September 20, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her son Lawrence on June 23, 1999 and her son-in-law, Joe Gallagher on December 14, 2002.
Gertrude was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother and is survived by her children: David (Judy) Long, Diane Gallagher, Phillip (Cindy) Long and daughter-in-law, Theresa O’Brien; 11 grandchildren: Jeff (Debbie) Long, Sheri (Brian) Hoogenboom, Matt (Heather) Long, Christine (Jim) Sonnevil, Carol (Matt) LaLonde, Greg (Shannon) Long, Brian (Lisa) Gallagher, Erin (Alan) Mueller, Becky Long, Alison Lovell, and Kyle Long and 20 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends whom she cherished.
