Gerrit John Newmeyer, age 92, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. He was born on February 15, 1923, in Kalamazoo, MI the son of Jacob and Jenny Mulder Newmeyer was a lifelong area resident.
Gerrit served in the US Navy during WWII. He returned to Kalamazoo where he worked for the Upjohn Company for over 35 years before retiring. Gerrit was a former member of Grace Christian Reformed Church and Southern Heights Christian Reformed Church and is currently a member of Covenant United Reformed Church. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, gardening, family vacations, and watching Detroit Tigers baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Emegene Armstrong. On October 30, 1947, he married the former Lois Razenberg, who survives.
Also surviving are two children, AnnLouise John Visser of Hixson, TN, and Tom Renee Newmeyer of Titusville, FL; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Schuring of Portage; and several nieces and nephews.
