It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of German Leiva, devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, loyal brother, and a true friend to many. He died peacefully on May 14, 2022, surrounded by his beloved family and only a month shy of his 83rd birthday. German was born in Bogota, Colombia to Jose Ramon and Susana Leiva and moved to Miami, FL in 1977. He lived his life passionately, achieving many successes professionally, loving intensely, and enjoying his many hobbies. His greatest and proudest achievement was creating a united family, for which he was the glue, hosting weekly Saturday dinners at his home. He, was the pillar of our family, always worrying about the minor and major challenges facing all his loved ones and consistently willing to lend a hand with his generous spirit.
German had a prolific professional career. He graduated with a BA degree in Economics, Latin American Affairs, and Business Administration and later earned his MA in Economics and Business Administration all from the University of Wisconsin, in Madison. He was the president and CEO of MFZ Management Corporation (formerly known as Miami Free Zone) since 1977.
German leaves a beautiful legacy of values and was a model of how to live life fully and richly.
