Germaine Ayres, 81, of Union Pier, Michigan died Monday night, March 21, 2011 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Centers, Michigan City, IndianaMrs. Ayres was born September 29, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Emil J. and Emily (Horacek) Churan.

She graduated from New Buffalo High School in 1946 and earned her Bachelor of Education Degree from National-Louis University, Evanston, Illinois; and her Master of Education Degree from Michigan State University. On June 14, 1952, she married John M. Ayres at the New Buffalo United Methodist Church. Mrs. Ayres was employed for 28 years as a teacher, first at the Three Oaks Elementary School and then at the River Valley Middle School, retiring in 1981.

She was a life member of the New Buffalo Service League and also the Niles Chapter # 332 Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Ayres was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, a Half Century member of the National-Louis University, and a member of the Lakeside United Methodist Church. In 1990 she became a volunteer at the New Buffalo Library which she enjoyed very much.Survivors include her husband, John Ayres and daughter Charlotte (Jay) Kurbis of Wheeler, Indiana.
