Geri Susan Schwartzstein, 87, of Somerset, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, after a brief illness.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Geri was raised in the Brooklyn Jewish Orphan Asylum until she was adopted by David and Reba Safran at the age of eight. She grew up in the Laurelton section of Queens, New York and also lived in Yonkers, New York before settling in Somerset in 1963. Geri graduated from the New York City College of Technology with a degree in Dental Hygiene. For the last 25 years, she has worked as a communications associate at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick and as a Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway of Hillsborough. She was an avid dancer and enjoyed tap, jazz, line, ballroom and Hawaiian dancing and, she was a member of the High Steppers dance troupe. She also very much enjoyed playing cards and board games with her family and friends.
Predeceased by her daughter, Amy Schwartzstein and brothers Jay & Richard Safran, Geri is survived by her son Barry Schwartzstein of East Brunswick, her grandchildren, Rebecca Stavola and her husband David of Eatontown and Dr. Daniel Schwartzstein, also of Eatontown, as well as her beloved canines, Sweetpea and Bubbles and her parrot, Charlie.
