Gerard J. Cushing, age 86, of St. Cloud, Florida passed away on December 26, 2021.
Jerry was born on February 4, 1935 in The Bronx, NY, lived for many years on Long Island, NY and moved to Kissimmee, FL in January 1980. He moved to St. Cloud in June 2019.
Jerry graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in The Bronx and Iona College in New Rochelle, NY, where he was a History major.
After working many part-time jobs during his schooling, he worked for the State of New York as a Recreational Director in Kings Park.
He started his own business, Gerard Cushing, Inc. in 1970, as a Forensic Genealogist for Probate Court purposes to find the “rightful heirs” to lost legacies. He sold the business to Butler Mortgage in Kissimmee in January 2009 and continued working on a part-time basis until his official retirement in 2020.
Jerry was a long-time member of The Knights of Columbus, Council #6624 in Kissimmee, becoming a 3rd Degree Knight. He was a long-time patron of the Osceola Center for the Arts, and one of the original members of the Osceola German American Club. He was involved for many years with the Kissimmee Chamber of Commerce and acted as an Ambassador, taking the keys to the City of Kissimmee to a sister City of Segovia, Spain.
He was known for his positive attitude and outgoing personality to everyone he met. After a long life well-lived he went home to be with our Lord.
Jerry was pre-deceased by his Father, Cyril Cushing, born in Canada; his Mother, Lena (Kunz) Cushing, born in Germany; his Brother , Bernard Cushing; his Sister, Eileen (Cushing) Camardella; and a Granddaughter, Jessica Annunziato.
He is survived by his loving Wife of 35 years, Kay (Fuls) Cushing. His surviving children are Laurie Rao (Tony); Gerard Cushing (Danielle); Lizanne O’Brien (Tom); and Mary Cushing, aka “Kutsch”, all living in New York. He has a Step-son, Michael Jones, living in Kissimmee, FL.
He has 9 grandchildren, Lauren Wong (Dave); Anthony Rao (Brittany); Christine Jensen (Graham); Morgan Mancini (Joe); Brendan Cushing; Katie Cushing; John Cushing; Jennifer Oliveri (Christopher); and Megan Cooke.
He also has 5 Great-Grandchildren, Christopher Oliveri; Nathan Wong; Aaralyn Oliveri; Holly Wong; and Claire Jensen.
