Gerard A. “Jerry” Plourde, of Plainville CT, loving husband of Pauline Plourde died Monday at Hartford Hospital after a long valiant fight, surrounded by his loved ones. He will missed deeply his daughter Melissa and husband Santo Gibilisco, son Shawn and wife Aimee Plourde, and his pride and joys, his grandchildren Michael, Bryant,  Olivia, Andre’, and Casey

His family  included one brother Joseph Plourde(deceased) and wife Fern and 4 sisters and brother in laws.  They  are Gloria and Joseph(deceased) Gervies, Claudia andMaurice Morin, Rita Plourde, and Gayle Pelletier.  Among the many who loved him are several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Gerard was born on February 13, 1946 in St. Agatha, Maine, the son of the late Joseph and Aurora Plourde. He graduated from St Agatha High School in 1964, joining the Army shortly after and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  He was a decorated veteran, having received numerous awards, due to his time spent in Vietnam.  There awards included:  VSM/Bronze Star, NDSM, Marksmen, Mil Justice, and Battle Indoc.  He was a longtime member and supporter of the D.A.V in Bristol

When he returned home, he worked for Stanley Seva driving an oil truck.  He was employed by several different carpentry companies, becoming so skilled in this area that he eventually was self-employed, and was a longtime member of the Carpenters Union Local #43 in Hartford. His wife and children take great pride in all the remodeling and furniture building that he did, in their homes, making it a wonderful place for them to grow and flourish.

Gerard was disabled in 2003 and he eventually turned his work into his hobby.  The garage was his favorite place to spend his time with the grandchildren.  He also loved to travel to see family and friends and was thrilled when he and Pauline took “the trip of a lifetime” to Alaska.
