Geraldine Pruitt Anderson Cheek, 92, of Buford, GA, went to be with her heavenly father on December 17, 2020, in Wilmington, NC. Her friends knew her as Gerry and many family members called her Geral. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrenceville, GA since 1993, after being a longtime member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta. She attended Ivy Creek Baptist Church in Buford in her youth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allene and Andrew Pruitt; brothers, Winfred Pruitt, Marvin Pruitt, Cecil Pruitt, Garland Pruitt, and Doyle Pruitt; and sisters, Velma Butler, Claudine Thrasher, and Lennie Bell Lee.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Marie Anderson, Wilmington, NC, one grandson, Ryan Erik Anderson, (wife Emily), Fuquay Varina, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gerry was born March 20, 1928, in Buford, GA where her family farmed.
She graduated from Lawrenceville High School in 1945 and attended the Atlanta Division of Georgia State College in Atlanta in 1946. She married her first husband, a marine in Atlanta, in 1951. She held many secretarial positions throughout her career with the Veterans Administration, Atlanta; US Marine Corps, Camp Pendleton, CA and Washington, DC; Wisconsin State College, River Falls, WI; Motorola, Phoenix, AZ; and the Internal Revenue Service, Chamblee, GA, where she retired with 30 years civil service in 1987.
After retiring, she volunteered at Gwinnett Hospital and enjoyed many activities with her Sunday School Joy Class and VSP group at Lawrenceville FUMC. Her many talents included sewing, cooking, decorating, and gardening. She loved growing flowers and vegetables and sharing them with family, friends, and neighbors.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and especially loved Christmas time and spending time with her family. She had a smile that would brighten your day. She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
