Geraldine “Gerry” Ozelle Johnson
November 7, 1933 – March 28, 2023
We are sad to announce the passing of Geraldine “Gerry” Johnson. She left us on Tuesday, March 28th, surrounded by her family after a valiant 2-year battle with cancer. She was born to Herb and Clyde Bartlett in Chilocco, Oklahoma. She grew up in Arkansas (Ark) City, Kansas and graduated from Ark City Junior College where she met her beloved husband, Dwane Johnson. They were married in Ark City, Kansas on December 30th, 1955. They eventually settled in Albuquerque with a dental practice in the South Valley in the early 1960s. Gerry had a great passion for playing the organ and volunteered as the church organist since her days in high school. She gave generously of herself to Presbyterian Hospital as a volunteer for 25 years. Gerry had another little-known secret, sewing baby blankets (Beezels as her grandchildren referred to them) for newborns in the NICU at University of New Mexico Hospital. In conjunction with her church, Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, she sewed and donated over 4,000 blankets to the hospital for their newborns.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dwane Johnson; and her great-granddaughter, Ava Brienne Lobato. She is survived by her three children, Mark Johnson and his wife, Sherry, Melinda Paez, and Pamela Garcia and her husband, Patrick; her nine grandchildren, Ryan Johnson and his wife, Shelby, Courtney Bamonte and her husband, Isaac, Marybeth Lobato and her husband, Jacob, Stephen Paez, Rebecca Paez, Trevor Garcia, Logan Garcia, Emma Garcia, and Nolan Garcia; and her great-grandson, Carson Lobato. She was so proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by so many, and we look forward to the day when we will all be together again.
