Geraldine G. Groves, 85, of Freeport, died Friday, January 7, 2005 at Provena St. Joseph Nursing Center.
Born December 19, 1919 in Stephenson County she was the daughter of Willard and Elsie (Reed) Lapp. She married Walter Groves June 1, 1946 in Dakota and he preceded her in death November 23, 1976. She was married to Eugene E. Gassman for 17 years. She was a World War II veteran serving as a nurse in the South Pacific Theatre and was a nurse at Freeport Memorial Hospital for 16 years. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ.
Surviving are one daughter, Robin (Andrew) Stykel of German Valley; three sons, Terrance (Fiancée Florence Prue)Groves and David (Colleen) Groves both of Freeport, Reverend Mark (Debbie) Groves of Monaca, PA; two sisters, Wilma (Francis) Brown of Davis and Garnet (Wayne) Schlueter of Rock City; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 4 step children, Jo Ann (Larry) Gaylor of Washington, Gene (Elaine) Gassman of Pearl City, Susan (Dennis) Schmidt of Minnesota, and Terri Ross of Wisconsin; 7 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Randall Groves; 1 brother, Ellsworth Lapp.
