Biography Geraldine G. Chavez, 78, of Oxnard, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 30, 2011 with her family at her side. She was known as “Mama Jerry” to all her family, friends and neighbors.
Originally from Gallup, New Mexico, Mama Jerry’s family moved to East Los Angeles where she grew up and met the love of her life, Cosme Chavez. They married, moved to Oxnard and raised their family in Rose Park.
Mama Jerry is survived by her daughter, Yolanda Chavez, son, Luis Chavez (Esther); daughter, Josie Astorga (Luis); grandson, Anthony Rodriguez; granddaughters Yolanda Chavez, Rachel Astorga-Regalado, and Lisa Fajardo; nephews, Mike Chavez and Joe Chavez; niece Mary Chavez; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cosme Chavez, and sister and brother-in-law Rosalie and Rene Chavez.
Viewing is planned for Thurs., July 7, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m.
