Gerald R. “Big G” Farmer, 80, a long-time resident of Ashland, IL, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at Prairie Village Healthcare Center in Jacksonville where he was dearly loved. He was born March 5, 1941, in Jacksonville, the son of Harold Edward and Helen Louise Long Farmer. He married Betty Lucille Bottom on March 15, 1992, in Ashland, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 1996.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold “Red” Farmer and W. Eugene “Gene” Farmer (surviving wife, Linda Sue of Arenzville); and two sisters, Evelyn Allen and Virginia Watkins.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Farmer was a 1958 graduate of Ashland High School. He worked as a truck driver for Hubbard Mill in Springfield for ten years and then for Ashland Farmers Elevator for twenty-four years. Gerry was a member of Richland Creek Baptist Church and the Beardstown Elks Club.
