Gerald was born and raised in Rugby, ND, on May 22, 1945. He graduated in May of 1963 and a short time after joined the Air Force in December. He would spend the next 26 and a half years in the military. During this time, he met his wife Lyn (Carolyn) in Rapid City, SD, and they were married on Oct. 17, 1970. During their time in the Air Force, they would have two loving daughters, Annette and Nichole who cherished their dad very much. Gerald retired from the Air Force in August 1990 and then worked for Rochester Armored Car Company for the next twenty years. They recently moved to Albuquerque, NM, in August 2020. Gerald enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family in North Dakota, especially with his cousin Larry.
