Gerald L. “Jerry” Burk, 83, of Peoria passed away on April 22, 2016 at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria. He was born on November 10, 1932 in Peoria to Wilbur D. and Florence (Noel) Burk. He married Patricia A. Murray on May 21, 1955. He later married Patricia Corrigan on August 23, 1997. She preceded him in death. He married Sara Boyd on February 27, 2016. She survives.
Also surviving are one son Kevin (Mary Ann) Burk of Peoria; four daughters Karen (Rick) Sronce of Springfield, Sue (Dave) Elbert and Kathy Arnold both of Metamora, and Mary (Jeff) Nonnemacher of Bloomington; step-children Robert (Judy) Herbert of Tampa, FL, Melissa (Chuck) Schmidt of Richmond TX, Debora (Richard) Herriford of Magnolia, TX, James (Danielle) Herbert of Houston, TX, and William (Lhiza) Herbert of Peoria; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, and three grandsons.
Jerry graduated from Bradley University in 1955. He served as a United States Air Force Officer. He was a teacher and coach in Peoria, Superintendent of Recreation in Peoria, owner of Jerry’s Liquors in Germantown Hills, and an internal auditor for the State of Illinois Department of Natural Resources, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Greater Peoria Area Hall of Fame, IHSA Baseball Hall of Fame, Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame, and Bradley University Alumni.
