Gerald Estrada Valdez, 75, died on August 7, 2022, at his home in Lordsburg, New Mexico. “Jerry”, as he was known to his family and friends, was born May 4, 1947, to Benito S. Valdez and Maria Estrada.
He graduated from Lordsburg High School in 1966. He was drafted into the U.S. Army after high school. He then attended basic training at Ft. Bliss, Texas, where he was medically discharged due to a knee injury. Jerry then began working at Phelps Dodge Corp. in Tyrone, NM. He worked there for 33 years, where he became a fill in foreman for the labor crew.
Jerry loved traveling the world and visited many different countries. He met many different people and made many new friends along the way. His favorite travel spot was Australia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Benny, in 1975 and his mother, Mary, in 1991. He was also preceded in death by his nephew Tommy Valdez Jr. in 2008. He is survived by his only brother Thomas Daniel Valdez Sr. and wife Becky or Lordsburg NM, niece Amy Ann Marquez Valdez of El Paso, Texas, nephew Jeremy Joseph Valdez Sr. of Lordsburg, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
