On Saturday, June 25, 2016, Gerald A. Lavery, Jr., 68, passed into eternal life at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born on April 14, 1948 in New Britain, he was the son of the late Gerald A. Lavery Sr. & Rita (Griffin) Lavery. Prior to his retirement, he was a 26 year veteran of the Newington Police Department. He served his community as a police officer with pride, specializing in many areas of law enforcement including crime scene & accident reconstruction, photography, and composite artistry. In the past 14 years, he was a security officer at Hall High School in West Hartford, serving also as an advisor to their Art Club. He was a past Vice President of the Newington Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Officers. In his free time, he was an avid motorcyclist and enthusiast of WWII history. He was also active with Boy Scout Troop #355 of Newington. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son Shawn Lavery, and his brother, MPO Peter J. Lavery. He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Patricia A. (Dunbar) Lavery, a son Devin Lavery of Queens, NY, a daughter Dr. Katherine Lavery, DVM of Newington, a brother James Lavery and his wife Hope of Newington, his sisters Martha Riccio and her husband Ted of TX, & Nora Petrash and her husband Randall of CA, sister-in-laws Pamela Lavery of Berlin and Gayle Fredericks and her husband William of Beacon Falls, many nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.
