Georgia May (Merris) McDowell was born on May 21, 1944, in Canon City, Colorado, the daughter of George E. and Bertha (McBeth) Merris. Georgia passed away September 5, 2012 in Canon City. Married at a young age, Georgia had three children, Deanette, Merris and Paul McDowell. When her children were older, she went on to get her GED and an Associate Degree in Marketing from Pikes Peak Community College. She worked at Shadow Hills and the Ramada Inn as a bartender, then as manager of The Corner Pocket in Canon City. She ended her working career as dispatcher for the Florence School District. Throughout her life, Georgia had a generous heart and loved to laugh. She will be missed by her family and friends. Georgia is survived by her children, Deanette McDowell (Jake Quintana) of Canon City and Paul McDowell (Patsy) of Apache Junction, AZ; grandchildren, Domini Roy (Michael), Levi McDowell (Shannon), Cody McDowell, and Caitlin McDowell; and great grandchildren, Damien and Marcus Roy. She is also survived by eight extended grandchildren; sister, Jerry Loflin; and daughter-in-law, Kathy McDowell. She was preceded in death by her son, Merris McDowell; and her parents.
