Ms. Georgette Davenport, affectionately known as “Penny” to her family and friends, was born on October 22, 1961. Our beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, peacefully transitioned to her eternal home at the age of 60. Her pride and joy, Asia was by her side until the very end.

Penny was born in Jersey City, NJ to Martha Henry. She was reared in love by the late George and Lucille Helton. Penny was also preceded in death by her grandparents, James Earl Henry, Gussie Lee Henry, and aunt Minnie Bradley. Through the teachings of her parents and grandparents, Penny knew the importance of not only recognizing who God was but also having an intimate relationship with Him. She was a member of St. John A.M.E. Zion Church, located in Thomasville, NC.  Later in life, she joined Williams Memorial C.M.E. Church of High Point, NC. Penny participated with the church choirs, hospitality committee, and as a Sunday School Teacher.

Penny was blessed to have many talents, her warm personality was reflected in all she endeavored. Penny graduated from Thomasville Senior High class of 1980. Her love for people guided her to receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the illustrious University of North Carolina at Greensboro. After graduation, Penny went on to have a career in the field of education; working in Thomasville City Schools and local early childhood development and learning facilities throughout the Triad area.

Penny was a melodious songstress, avid reader, sports fanatic (North Carolina Tarheels, Golden State Warriors, and Pittsburgh Steelers), and a true lover of Christ.
