George W. “Bill” Apple Jr, 80, of Crawfordsville, passed away Thursday at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. George was born May 24, 1939 in Indianapolis to George Sr. & Nellie Lamb Apple.

He served in the US Navy from 1956-1960, and later worked at Raybestos and Indiana American Water Company for many years. He loved traveling with his wife, Carol.

Bill loved children and would rough house with them to the extent of getting himself and them in trouble with their parents. His sister, Elinor, called him the energizer bunny because of all his medical complications he always bounced back from.

He married Carol Fairfield who preceded him in death May 2001.

He is survived by: sister, Elinor Dolph, Crawfordsville; Sister in law Dorothy Apple, California; Son Chuck (Lisa) Apple, California; Grandsons Joe and Caleb Oliver, Great Granddaughter Hailey Oliver, Great grandson Trent Oliver, Great Great Grandson Carsyn Oliver and special family friend Jamie Ferrier, Crawfordsville. He is also survived by nieces, Vicki (Tim) Eades, Dee (Jim) Frazee, Sandy Ramos; all of Crawfordsville, Donna (Greg) Chizewsky and Cindy Ramos of Arizona, Kathy Santolo of California; Nephews Dave (Kim) Dolph of Crawfordsville; Marc (Leslie) Ramos, Chris (Robin) Apple, Walter Apple, Wayne (Kathleen) Apple, and David (Meg) Apple all of California, Daniel (Diedre) Apple of New Hampshire, and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Tom Apple and sister Chloie Ramos.
