George Thurston Rowan was 80 years old when he peacefully passed away on May 30, 2023 to be with the Lord. He was born in South Bend, Indiana and during the early part of his career he would become an elementary school Principal in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a graduate of Indiana State University and Michigan State University where he was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. While at Michigan State he received his PhD and became a Professor in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, where he was involved in many research projects and produced numerous publications. He founded the David Walker Research Institute at the Michigan State College of Human Medicine and taught classes to 1st year medical students. He also served on the national board of the AARP. His passion was baseball and he is truly missed by his former players and coaches, whom he shared many memorable experiences. Upon his retirement he received Professor Emeritus recognition from Michigan State. George was loved and admired by everyone who interacted with him because of his generosity and kind soul. He is survived by his son Scott Allen Rowan and his wife Glennis, and daughter Shaun Maria Rowan-Popoff and her husband Simeon. Their mother, Mrs. Jana Stone (Jim) remained a lifelong friend. He is also the proud grandfather of two special girls, Anjelica and Arianna Rowan.
