George “Sonny” R. McCurdy, 64, of Concord, NC died on Tuesday August 14, 2018. Sonny was born in Lakewood, NJ and lived in Howell, NJ until moving to North Carolina 30 years ago. He raced at New Egypt and Wall Stadium as well as go cart racing with his son Austin. Sonny was a truck driver for multiple NASCAR and NHRA teams, including Ken Schrader Racing, DEI, KB Racing and others.
He enjoyed the outdoors, was a hard worker and could fix anything. Sonny was a great cook and a stand up guy that was a friend to all who knew him. He loved his family and friends. Sonny is predeceased by his parents George and Elizabeth McCurdy. Surviving is his wife Dana McCurdy; his children Austin and Ella McCurdy; his siblings James McCurdy and his wife Karen and Darlene Barney and her husband Robert; his niece Morgan; his nephews Kyle and Blake and many loving cousins.
