George Robert Cameron, age 73, passed away Saturday evening, December 16th, surrounded by a home full of friends and family he loved and that loved him. God sent him angels from Hospice to ease his passing.

He was born on October 7, 1933 in Cottonwood, Alabama.

George married his high school sweetheart Betty 53 years ago.  They began to call Fort Walton Beach their home in 1960. He was preceded in death by his father Harvey Cameron Sr. and his mother Lola Cameron.

George is survived by his loving wife and life-long companion Betty Cameron, his children, Keith and his wife Kathren, Lisa Thompson and her husband Bucky, grandchildren Bobby, Evan, Simona and her husband Jonathan, Jessica and her husband Samuel, Lydia, James, Cammie, Sierra, and Ashleigh, great grandchildren Gabrielle and Hunter, sister Myra Metcalf and husband Bascom, brother Harvey and wife Ann, sister Joyce Merritt and husband John, brother Billy and wife Martha, a bounty of accomplished nieces and nephews, and a decidedly large community of close friends and colleagues that made George’s life so rich with meaning and purpose.

George and Betty were a tennis family. There is no doubt their presence on local courts over the past 38 years has left the game better off than when they found it. In fact, there is nothing their lives did not touch that was not made more alive, more vibrant or more meaningful for having been graced by their attention.

While there was never any doubt as to George’s deep abiding faith in Jesus Christ, he was afforded time by his LORD to share this faith with family and friends before the disease took his strength.
