Our Beloved George, Dad, Uncle, Cousin, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa, was born in Albuquerque, NM, to George and Mary Barrack. They moved to San Diego when he was a baby, where he grew up in North Park along with his sisters, Marti and Yvette. Always the showman, George would be known to entertain the children of the neighborhood with his wit and storytelling, spray painting “The Big Show” on the family garage door. He grew up as a member of St. Patrick’s Parish and was an altar boy and member of the choir. He attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School in San Diego, and thereafter, Catholic military boarding school, St. Catherine’s Academy in Anaheim. He graduated St. Augustine High School, where he was a standout athlete, playing baseball, football, basketball, and volleyball, as well as a member of the track team.
He was a businessman in his professional life. As a young adult, he helped manage and run his father’s liquor store. Also, as a young man, he enjoyed restoring and reselling classic cars, most notably and preferably, corvettes. Later, he would own and operate jewelry stores in San Diego County. Along with his (ex-)wife, Diana, he bred and raised horses, including a champion Appaloosa, Gold Bars Ransom. Later in life, he enjoyed script writing.
He was preceded in death by his father, George; and he is survived by his 96 year old mother, Mary; his sisters, Marti and Yvette; his ex-wife, Diana, his daughter, Chelsa, his son-in-law, Michael, and his two grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher, who he adored and affectionately called “The Little Guys,” as well as a third grandson to be born in October; his ex-wife, Carol, his son, Bryan, and his granddaughter, Serena, and great grandson, Chance; his son, Ty, and daughter-in-law, Patricia; his stepdaughter, Laurie, and her husband, Joe, and granddaughters, Nicole and Tiffany, and great grandson, Josiah; as well as many beloved cousins, nephews and family members and friends throughout California, New Mexico, Illinois and Nevada.
A strong believer in Jesus Christ, he is undoubtedly in a far better place where he no longer suffers from the illnesses that plagued him his last few years and took him from this world much earlier than we would have hoped. The world has lost a truly unique and beautiful soul. He will be deeply and sorely missed by everyone who knew him and he will be loved and remembered fondly. His memories will be cherished forever and he will remain and live on with those loved ones he leaves behind.
