George Reuben Wall, June 9, 1922 – October 16, 2017.

George Reuben Wall passed from this life October 16, 2017 at the age of 95 years on this Earth. His residence at the time was Temple, Texas.

George was born in Hamlin, Jones County, Texas to parents Allene Couch Wall and Henry Elmer Wall, Sr. The family moved to Knox City, Texas in 1927, where he remained until 1973. He completed public school there in 1940 and enrolled in Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) that same year. College was put on hold for a four-year service in the Army Air Corps (1942-1946). George served as an airplane mechanic and was stationed in Europe and Guam during WWII. After the war, he returned to Texas Tech to complete and receive his degree in Agronomy in 1948. During his final years at Texas Tech, he served as Business Manager of the La Ventana (yearbook)  and as Interfraternity Council President while a member of Kemas (now Phi Gamma Delta).

Upon graduation, George returned to Knox City to begin a farming operation and marry his high school sweetheart, Zena Estelle Bolin Wall. They were married in her mother’s home in Knox City, August 13, 1950 and shared 56 years of love and devotion to each other and their family before her death from cancer February 20, 2007.

A few years after starting the farming operation, George changed his occupation to Highway Engineer and began a 31 year career with TXDOT. Their daughter Deborah was born 1954 while they were living on the farm. In 1973, they moved to Childress, Texas, when George was promoted to Assistant District Engineer with TXDOT. After a successful bout with cancer in 1982, he began to rethink priorities and took early retirement in 1984. George and Zena enjoyed many years of RV travel and made lifelong friends on their journeys. In 2004, they left their travels to move to Belton, Texas to be near Deborah and her family. Their grandson Scott was a source of much happiness and pride. Scott often accompanied his grandparents on travels when he was very young.

During his life, George was a faithful Baptist, Mason, and Rotanian, and a loving and devoted friend, husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Allene, his brother Henry Elmer Wall, Jr, his sister Rowena Lane, his brother Robert Lynn Wall, and his wife of 56 years, Zena Estelle Bolin Wall. He is survived by his sister Anne Matlock and her husband Tommy of Abliene, Texas, his devoted daughter Deborah Anne Wall Williams and her husband David of Salado Texas, and his grandson Scott David Williams and his wife Carrie of Portland Oregon, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
