George R. Welch, 93, of Streator, formerly of LaSalle, passed away November 27, 2014 at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley.
Mr. Welch was born April 17, 1921 in Oglesby to George and Laura (Kinkie) Welch. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in the Philippines during World War II. After serving his country, he worked at Swift and Co. as a meat cutter. He married Doris Grosenbach on January 7, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Peru. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Peru.
He is survived by his wife Doris; two sons, Kenneth (Ellen) of Streator and Ronald (Diane) of Dalzell; a grandson, Calvin Welch and a brother, Wayne Welch of Granville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Floyd Welch and two sisters, Ruth Gruber and Lila Zelmer.
