George R. Shepherd, 88, of Worthington, IN formerly of Fortville, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 23, 1933, in Anderson, IN to Ronald and Ruth (Nickerson) Shepherd. George was the managing insurance agent for The Flanagan Agency in Fortville for many years.
George was a graduate of Anderson High School, a former member of the Fortville Lions Club, Fortville Optimist Club and the Shriner’s. He umpired many baseball games for the Fortville Optimist Club at Hampton Field.
George is survived by children: Terrie (Jack) Franklin formerly of New Castle, Michael (Gretchen) Shepherd of Fortville and Ruth (Jeff) Mathison formerly of Anderson; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, sister Lois Killion of Anderson, brother Gene Shepherd of Marion and Jim (Joan) Shepherd of Anderson, numerous nieces and nephews and former spouse Mary Ellen Ashby of Fortville. He was preceded in death by his wife Judi, daughter and son-in-law Susan and Bill Schell, parents, sister Doris Bouse and brother Jerry Shepherd.
