George A. Pillmore of Scottsdale, AZ, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on March 21, 2016, surrounded by family members. He was 92 years old. George was born on November 25, 1923, in Alamosa, CO, the second of four sons to Edison and Martha (Conkey) Pillmore. George grew up in Boulder, CO, and graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering. During this time, he was also commissioned as a Naval Officer. He was called to serve, in 1944, as the XO (Executive Officer) aboard LCT 614, as part of the second wave of the D-Day assault on Omaha Beach. His first time taking command of a Navy ship, at age 20, was pushing away from the dock at the south of England for the cross-channel transit to Normandy.

George met the love of his life, Mary Leach, in 1950, on a blind date, in Schenectady, NY. They were married on May 13, 1951, in Loudonville, NY.
