George Oliver Rioux, 79, of Lebanon, CT, beloved husband of his high school sweetheart Isabel (Szajda) Rioux, passed away Saturday April 11, 2015.
Born Nov. 18, 1935 in Willimantic, he was a son of the late Ovide and Catherine (Stecko) Rioux.
He was a graduate of Lyman Memorial High School in Lebanon. After serving in the army, he graduated from Windham Tech where he excelled in the machinist trade, especially in tool and die making.
Mr. Rioux was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War. He went on to work as a tool and die maker, retiring from UCONN in 1992.
In his younger days he enjoyed line dancing along with his wife. He always took pride in his home, especially organic gardening – which helped pave the way to establish “Nature’s Way Farm” health food store for 25 years with his wife Isabel. George also shared his creative talents in both wood carving and rug weaving, and was a member of two weaving groups. He was ever devoted to his family which he leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Isabel; three children, Valorie Elwell and her husband Robert of Barto, PA, Bruce and his partner Janice Melchiore of Hopkinton, MA, and Jeffrey and his wife Sarah of Bedford, NH; seven grandchildren, Bryan and his wife Danielle Elwell of Harleysville, PA, Alicia Simoneau DVM and her husband Eric of Easton, PA, Gregory Rioux of Worcester, MA, Douglas Rioux of Jamaica Plain, MA, Kelsey Rioux of Worcester, MA, and Stephanie and Jeremy Rioux, both of Bedford, NH; his brother Robert and his wife Renate Rioux of South Windsor, CT; and numerous extended family members and friends.
