George Nelson Gilbert, age 82, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell, Montana after a brief illness, with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born on June 10, 1926 in Kalispell, Montana to George and Flossie (Fox) Gilbert.
He grew up and attended high school in Bigfork, Montana. He spent a short time in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served two years in the Korean War. Returning from the war he worked for the U.S. Forest Service and C&C Plywood and eventually Plum Creek Lumber where he worked until retirement. He married Avis Gingery on October 18, 1958.
He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He looked forward to planting his garden each spring. We will all miss his sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Avis Gilbert of Kalispell, MT and his four daughters; Cindie Wright and her husband Chip of Moreno Valley, CA., Cristal Rice, Caroline Gilbert, and Cathleen Gilbert all of Kalispell, Montana; five grandchildren, Cambria Tidwell and husband Ryan of Herndon, VA; Jeffrey Happ and his wife Megan of Santa Clarita, CA; Michelle Gilbert and fiance’ Billy Roberts, Chris Rode and his wife Angyl and Brenden Rice all of Kalispell, MT; and one sister Edna Hagadone of Kalispell, MT and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
