He was born August 9, 1946 in Danville, Virginia. He was married to Marilyn (Kroeger) Matherly on April 3, 1966. George was a Vietnam war veteran serving in Panama between 1966 to 1968.
He loved and collected old cars and enjoyed this hobby with his son. Besides his wife Marilynhe is survived by his son Phillip Matherly (Samantha), his daughter Renee Hayden (Mark), 5 grandchildren, Christina, Cody, and Cassidy Matherly and Nash and Jamison Hayden.
