Mr. George Mason Murphy, 87, a resident of Valley, AL passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at LaGrange Hospice in LaGrange, GA.
Survivors include his son, Eugene “Sonny” Murphy (Judi) of Valley; daughter-in-law, Jane Murphy Kite; step-children, Bob Jones (Meg), & Jo Barton (George); brother, Joe Murphy of Ardmore, OK; grandchildren, Mason Murphy (Misti), Brian Murphy, Dustin Murphy, Claire Vansant, Alex Jones (Leigh Ann), Jenny Barton, Parker Barton, several great-grandchildren, one sister; and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sims & Alice Barnes Murphy, his wife, Ouida Parker Murphy, son, Phillip L. Murphy, and brothers, Leon & Frank Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was born in Brewton, AL on January 22, 1929. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during Korea. He was a graduate of Sam Houston State in Texas and Auburn University. He taught school before becoming Superintendent of Transportation for the Chamber County Board of Education and was a member of Canoe Baptist Church in Atmore, AL.
