George Mark Magee, age 85 of Montalba, was called home to our loving Lord and Savior on Sunday, the 15th day of March 2020. He was born on the 29th day of August 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to William Adolphus Magee and Grace Ward Magee.
Mr. Magee is remembered as the patriarch, historian, and protector of his family. He taught others how to be kind and forgiving and how to be a loving spouse, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Mr. Magee was also an entrepreneur, owning his own business, Magee Printing. He was a faithful Christian and member of Southside Baptist Church.
George had a deep love for music, which began in the 1950’s when Charles Allen came to Montalba Baptist church in the summer to lead a Gospel music school for young men. George participated in the Gospel quartet, the Gospel Harmoniers, singing for local churches in the area and recording each week for the radio station KNET. George’s love of music led him to be actively involved in his community, participating in music programs at churches in Houston, Sugarland, and Palestine, as well as the community choir in Palestine. He also loved the Texas Theater of Palestine, where he enjoyed acting in several plays.
Mr. Magee is preceded in death by his parents William Adolphus Magee and Grace Ward Magee and by his siblings, Jim Magee and Sue Magee Fraim.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Lola Willhite Magee; son Mark Wayne Magee; brothers Marion (Bud) Magee and William (Bill) Magee; sister Marie Magee Burch; grandchildren Lindsy Magee and Holly Magee Samuel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
The family understands if you feel the need to stay home.
