George MacKay Shipton, 81, died September 30, 2017, at home in Chaplin, CT of heart failure and kidney disease. He was born June 26, 1936, in Arlington, MA to Clifford Kenyon Shipton and Dorothy George (Boyd) Shipton and grew up in Shirley MA.  George attended Proctor Academy, Cheshire Academy and took classes at the University of Connecticut. In 1965, he moved from Shirley to the 1752 farm in Chaplin he named Cedar Hill Farm where he raised his four sons. His employment included the UConn Farm Department, Brand Rex Wire and Cable, and ownership of a Shell gas station.  Interests included gardening, camping, car racing, UConn Women’s Basketball, and antique cars, trucks and tractors, especially REOs, Jeeps, and John Deeres. George was a member of the REO Antique Car Club of America, and the Quinebaug Valley Engineers Association. George is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Tymula); sons, John Edward Shipton and Ethan Boyd Shipton; grandchildren, John Edward Shipton Jr., Becky Lee Pluta, Sarah Boyd Scott, and Benjamin Ethan Shipton; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Jeanne, Andrew Ethan, and Paislee Victoria; sister, Ann Davis Moss of Andrews, NC; brother, Nathaniel of Shirley, MA; and several nieces and nephews.  George was predeceased by his sons, Daniel MacKay Shipton and Steven Andrew Shipton.
