George L. Hutchinson, 93, a resident of Cape Canaveral for many years, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2018 in hospice after a brief illness.
Born on June 17, 1924, in Camp Springs, Maryland, George was one of three children born to Horace and Blanche Hutchinson. He is survived by his seven children: James A. Hutchinson (Rebecca) of Winston-Salem, NC; Michael L. Hutchinson (Gloria) of Boynton Beach, FL; Debra L. Hutchinson (David Gerson) of Vero Beach, FL; Darion D. Hutchinson of Portland, OR; Kathryn P. Pheulpin (Laurent) of White, GA; Gregory S. Hutchinson (Debra) of Boynton Beach, FL; and George A. Hutchinson (Kwangsuk) of Burke, VA; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty J. Hutchinson, and his grandson, Josh Hutchinson (USN).
George lived in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., which he always referred to as his hometown. He attended Surrattsville High School in Clinton, MD. Later in life he would matriculate in higher education at Nebraska University and the George Washington University majoring in psychology. In l943 George enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on ships in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean war zones. Later, he would serve in the U.S. Army and the Air National Guard. George retired from the U.S. Government in 1975, having served in several agencies including the Defense Atomic Support Agency, U.S. Air Force Headquarters (Pentagon), Federal Highway Administration and the U.S.
