COLEBROOK –COLEMAN – George L. Coleman, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2014 at his home. George was born May 19, 1924 in Winsted. He was the son of Carl and Janet (Gray) Coleman. George went into the Navy at the age of 17 and served from 1941-1946 serving in WW II, the Invasion of Normandy and the Korean War. He was a gunner’s mate 2nd class and seaman on the Tuscaloosa and LST landing ship. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, George went to work for SNET where he retired after 34 years. He was also a founding member of the Forge Fire Co., in Colebrook and a past Deacon at the First Church in Winsted. George truly enjoyed all the friends he made along the way and loved spending time with his grandchildren, giving them rides on his tractor while he plowed and harrowed the garden. George is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Smith) of 65 years; son, Jeff and wife Maureen; daughter, Colleen and husband Jeff; brother, Spenny and wife Sally; son-in-law, Bill; and 4 grandchildren, Scott, Todd, Bridget and Michael (Mick). He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Cody. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Gordon and a sister, Janet. The family would like to thank the hospice staff, Dr. McHugh and her staff as well as Cindi and Jen for all their dedication and loving care.
