George James Banks of Danvers, fondly known as “Georgie”, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday May 15 th .

George grew up in Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School in 1977 where, in addition to being an excellent student, he excelled in the sports of baseball and football. George’s love for sports started at a young age while being coached by his dad throughout his youth.

After Danvers High, he attended Brandeis University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree while continuing his passion for baseball. George continued his athletic endeavors in the Greater Boston All Star Collegiate league and Boston Park league where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. George also loved golf and competed in Long Drivers of America with a personal record of 388 yards, “389” according to George. He was known by his peers as being “pound for pound the longest driver in the world”.

For the past 20 years George’s career evolved into building a successful business with his brother-in-law, Nick, where he found a passion in modular home design and architecture. Even in George’s final days he worked to revise and construct a new home for his nephew John.

When George wasn’t on the golf course or driving range, he was often traveling by motorcycle with friends in Europe and the Southwestern US. He loved downhill skiing, deep sea fishing, playing guitar, singing, writing music, hunting, and enjoying beautiful sunrises at Hampton beach. George was a huge Boston sports fan often cheering on the Patriots at Gillette stadium. He was also an entertainer by heart and loved to make people laugh. George took center stage with his personality, sense of humor and most excellent impersonations. He had an infectious smile that lit up the room, and will always be remembered for his baby blue eyes.

Georgie made friends in every stage of his life. From grade school to high school through college and beyond, he had friendships that lasted throughout his entire life. George was kind, loving and would do anything for his family and friends. He was truly loved by those who knew him and will be missed by many.

We can’t wait to celebrate George the way he would want us to.
