George Harold McArdle, 81, left us on September 17, 2019, with his family by his side. He was born on July 12, 1938, in Pittston PA to Harold and Anna McArdle.
George grew up in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania with his 3 brothers and 1 sister. He married Virginia Behler in December of 1958, and had 3 children; Brian, Tammy, and Deborah. He originally lived with his family in Florida, then moved briefly to Maryland for a career opportunity. He then moved with his family to New Jersey and spent the majority of his life in the town of Berlin.
He started his career in nursing in 1960 at Pennsylvania Hospital. He returned to school at Thomas Jefferson University and graduated with his Radiologic Technology degree in 1962. He received distinguished service awards recognizing his academic excellence and patient care and became Chief Radiologic Technologist in 1964. George was a driven professional with a strong work ethic and was chosen to be the Administrator of the Radiology Department at Thomas Jefferson Univ. Hospital in 1971. He then continued his education and received his science degree from Hahnemann Medical College in 1977. During his career at Thomas Jefferson he served as an instructor for the College, an active chairman on multiple committees, presented nationally, and was published in multiple Journals. He also was an inventor of a radiology device with a colleague, which was eventually sold to a larger corporation.
George retired in 1996 with a 25 year history at Thomas Jefferson University, he was only 58 years old. His interests included golfing, boating, and most of all building high end, museum quality, model ships. He completed 11 ships in total, including the Titanic, Sovereign of the Seas, and the H.M.S. Victory. He was a history buff and enjoyed reading and visiting museums. George loved the outdoors, especially historical nautical sites. George’s life centered around his wife and children. He took pride in his 3 grandchildren’s activities, accomplishments, and day to day lives.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his 2 daughters and their spouses; Tammy & Anthony Palagruto , Deborah and Michael Youngdahl ; his 3 grandchildren; Dominique, Ariana & Christopher, and his 2 brothers; Harold and Scott as well as many others that loved him. George was truly a kind, humble, gentle man respected by all that met him. He will be greatly missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
