GEORGE FRED GILL
George Fred Gill, 90, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born April 7, 1923 at Huntsdale, he was a son of the late William and Carrie (Laughman) Gill. He was the widower of Martha J. (Fickes) Gill.
Mr. Gill retired from the Naval Inventory Control Point, Mechanicsburg and then had worked as a flagman for PennDOT. He was a member of the Carlisle Fish and Game and the Carlisle First Church of God.
He enjoyed bowling and fishing.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by six sisters: Geraldine Baker, Janet Hall, Oneida Rock, Leah Dietrick, Florence Snoke and Sarah Speck and three brothers: Albert Gill, Bill Gill and James Gill.
Surviving are two daughters: Linda Fromm of Carlisle and Diane Gutshall of Gardners; a son: Brian Gill of Carlisle; a brother: John Gill of Mechanicsburg and a sister: Peggy Hofer of Mechanicsburg; three grandsons: Tom, Daniel and William and four great grandchildren: Savannah, Emma, Haley and Lucas.
