George Edward “Ed” Rogers, 81, of Fort Walton Beach passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 16, 2015. He is considered a hero by many and a beloved husband, daddy, pawpaw and grand pawpaw by those closest to him.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Rogers; daughters Eydie Norris (Brian) of Navarre, FL and Carol Carroll (Dave) of Clermont, FL; grandsons Matthew Carroll of Dyass AFB, TX and Anthony Norris (Samantha) Fort Polk, LA ; great-grandsons Jace and James Norris of Fort Polk, LA. He is also survived by brothers Robert Rogers (Connie) of Oregon, William Rogers (Rosemary) Alaska and Ronald Rogers (Cindy) of Pennsylvania; sister Jackie Coulter (Leonard) of Pennsylvania and sister in law Carolyn Dartez (Wilbert) of Louisiana.
During his distinguished Air Force career (1951-1973) he received numerous achievement awards to include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Metal and Presidential Unit Citation. In 1976 he received a Presidential Citation from President Gerald Ford for his work on gunship improvements. He served 2 tours in South East Asia flying the last year with Special Operations in AC-130s.
Ed was an avid hunter and Lifetime National Rifle Association member. For a number of years he taught hunter’s safety courses at Jackson Guard in Niceville, FL. In 1976 he was a Florida State Archery Champion.
