George E. Welch, 64, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne after an extended illness.
He was born March 24, 1950 in South Bend to Leonard “Gene” Welch and Delores J. (Eggleston) Bryant.
On November 17, 1989 he married his wife of 24 years, Linda J. (Belt) Welch. She survives at home.
Other survivors include 1 brother, David Welch of Bradenton, FL; nephew, Brad Welch of Niles, MI and 1 niece, Kelly (Todd) Kershner of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Sharon Sue Chapman-Welch.
George served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a heavy weapons infantryman with A Company, 27th Engineer Battalion.
He was employed at Adapto in South Bend for 10 years and later worked as a professional painter for over 25 years in the Michiana area. George later received an Associate of Applied Science Degree in computer information systems at Ivy Tech.
George was a member and past post commander of Goshen VFW Post 985 from 1990 to 1991.
He enjoyed playing in bowling leagues, golfing, reading and playing various games on his computer.
