George D. Shivers, age 84, of 1235 E. Pershing St., Salem, passed away March 24, 2012 at the Salem Community Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born March 28, 1927 in West Point Ohio, son of the late Alvin and Rachel (Duer) Shivers.

George worked as a valve tester for 35 years at the Hunt Valve Co. in Salem. He was a member of the Franklin Square Methodist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran serving in the 15th Mechanized Cavalry during WW II. His wife, Ann Blender Shivers, whom he married November 8, 1952, preceded him in death December 20, 1997.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sharlene Doyle; sisters, Margaret, Mary and Sally; and brothers John and Ray. Survivors include a son, David Shivers of Salem; daughters, Carolyn (Kenneth) Alesi of Salem, Terri (John) Jordan of Sullivan, and Beverlee (Dean) Cobbs of Beloit; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, June Henceroth. George loved visiting with family and friends, fishing, gardening, anything mechanical and his faithful canine friend Buddy. He especially enjoyed having coffee at his place every morning with his many friends.
